Adenanthera
pavonina is a deciduous tree with grey to reddish-brown bark. Leaves bipinnate,
alternate, stipulate. Leaflets alternate,with entire margin. Flowers; bisexual,
pale yellow racemes, with campanulate calyx tube; petals 5, linear-lanceolate
and glabrous. Stamens 10, free, filaments filiform. Ovary subsessile and flat.
Style filiform with simple stigma. Fruit a pod, spirally coiled after
dehiscence. Seeds are elliptic-lenticular, glossy and red in colour.
