 Trees, bark grey or brown, rough, shallowly vertically grooved. Leaves simple, opposite, elliptic-oblong or elliptic lanceolate, margin serrate, pink when young. Flowers polygamo-dioecious, creamy-white, small, in panicles, axillary or from leafless nodes, male panicles larger and denser than hermaphrodite. Calyx 4 teethed. Corolla lobes 4, shorter than the tube. Stamens 2, included. Ovary 2-celled, superior; stigma capitate. Fruit a drupe, ellipsoid, blue.
